Welcome and Welcome Back!

Composers,

BEHOLD: the first decomp post for fall 2007!

Below you will find the topic that ignited our lively discussion on wednesday. What do you think? Feel free to respond to anything that was said or leave a completely random comment. Let's keep the discussion open!

"When you underestimate your audience, you're cutting yourself off from your best work." -Madeleine L'Engle, author

In what ways (if any at all) do you consider your audience while composing?

I think that question poses more questions like: All said in done, yeah I did cool stuff, but does my piece sound good?

And the definition of good doesn't have to be "Tonally pretty!".

So that's where you reach the audience, in goodness. Goodness really means more of a piece being memorable and perceivable, and if that is done, then you've realized the art of conveying, which is art.

Yes and I'm not a BU composer but I could have been, I'm at SMU.

Just one response:

Listen to your body, it knows what to do.

When the body feels good, listen to the mind.
